Group Project - about the list of works

Group Project

Pls find the links again for searching the collections from the 2 museums:

1) HONG KONG HERITAGE MUSEUM
http://www.heritagemuseum.gov.hk/chinese/main.asp
藏品精選 - 搜尋(版面中上位置) - 組別 - 當代藝術 - 下一步 - 搜尋 = there are 998 works for your selection

2) Tate
http://www.tate.org.uk/servlet/GroupSelector?cgroupid=999999952
collection highlights - general highlights
(or you could use other method to search their works in the tate collection, such as by gallery or by subject matters.

As mentioned earlier, you should think about the scale of your exhibition first, e.g. the venue, budget, the schedule... before coming up a list of works. There is no limit for the total number of works in your show as it should be based on the above factors (i.e. it should be feasible!). Each group should select some works from both museums' collection but there is no preset quota (minimum requirement: at least one work from each museum). You can also select works from other sources to make it more flexible.

Hope you all enjoy the process of discussion and preparation! It should be fun!

Hong Kong Art History Art Project – mini-Exhibition at Asia Art Archive
Art History is being taught in local universities and has recently been included in the curriculum in secondary schools, yet it is often perceived as a dry, stagnant and conservative subject. Such perception is a reflection of an outdated mode of thinking about art history, a field which is actually undergoing exciting changes.

To coincide with the recent publication of a number of books on Hong Kong art history, guest curator Lau Kin Wah has invited 9 Hong Kong artists to re-examine their relationship with this academic discipline. The project is not only interested in how the artists view art history, how they view themselves as situated in it, but also what art history for contemporary art could otherwise be.

From 15 June until 19 October 2007, the artists will produce works in response to historical writing on Hong Kong art. Over the five month period, these works will be installed one by one in the Asia Art Archive, accompanied by documentary materials that aim to generate extensive and in-depth dialogue. The Archive becomes the context for the artists’ works, and simultaneously, sees the materials in the collection being presented in a different way.

Participating Artists:
CHING Chin Wai, Luke
FUNG Mei Wah, May
LAW Man Lok
LEE Kit
LEUNG Mee Ping
PAK Sheung Chuen, Tozer
TANG Ying Chi, Stella
TSANG Tak Ping
WONG Yui-Hin, James

Other related activities:
A series of reading group sessions accompanying the project will be held from June to September, with a roundtable symposium open to the public on 29 September 2007. For further details, please contact Asia Art Archive (Janet Chan on janet@aaa.org.hk or 2815 1112), or Jaspar Lau Kin Wah on jaspar@ctimail3.com or 9418 8184.
